The Rafter Y Ranch is located near many popular attractions.  For those interested in our rich history, there are several famous historical sitesFort Phil Kearny, where several important Indian battles were fought, is located just down Wagon Box Road from the ranch.  Other nearby battle sites include the Wagon Box Fight site and the Fetterman Battlefield.  Little Bighorn Battlefield, located in southern Montana, is approximately a one-hour drive from the ranch.

The small town of Story, Wyoming is just a few minutes from the ranch.  Story has several fine restaurants including the Tunnel Inn and the Wagon Box Inn.  The Piney Creek Grocery / "Waldorf A'Story" restaurant is also extremely popular and offers great meals as well as food and gift items rarely found in most stores.

The northern Wyoming cities of Buffalo and Sheridan are just a short drive away from Rafter Y Ranch.  Buffalo, Wyoming hosts the accredited Jim Gatchell Museum of the West, the historic Occidental Hotel and many other historic buildings.  There is a fine downtown shopping district and fine restaurants.  Buffalo also has the largest outdoor FREE swimming pool in the region.  Sheridan, Wyoming has the historic Sheridan Inn, the King Ropes Museum, Trails End Museum and many other fine attractions.  Sheridan also has a fine shopping district and fine dining opportunities.  During the summer months, rodeos are held nearly every week in both Buffalo and Sheridan.  Both communities also have great golf courses.

Just west of the Town of Kaycee is the famous "Hole-in-the-Wall" region, where the outlaws Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid and others holed up in the old west.  It is about a 1½ hour drive south from Rafter Y Ranch.

Two routes into the Big Horn Mountains and Bighorn National Forest, US Highway 16 from Buffalo and US Highway 14 from Ranchester (12 miles north of Sheridan) can be accessed after a short drive from Rafter Y Ranch.  Along both of these routes you can see spectacular scenery and wildlife.

These are just a few of the popular attractions in the vicinity of Rafter Y Ranch.  There are activities and events to suit every member of the family.  For more information on all our area has to offer, please contact us.
